Methods

Tutoring isn't meant to help academically for just this week, or this month, or even this year. Benefits are meant to last for a lifetime!

To accomplish this, each lesson will be planned based on:

A. A high level of structure.

B. A phonetically based program of reading and spelling which teaches the complete

sound structure of the language.

C. A multi sensory approach, that uses visual, auditory, kinesthetic (movement) and tactile

(touch) methods.

D. A great deal of repetition and drill in individual instruction.

We will focus on:

Reading (Phonemic awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, Comprehension)

Spelling (Encoding--sound to symbol; "Red words" or high frequency words that don't follow                          phonetic rules)

Writing (Format of letters and/or written expression)

Speaking (Expressive Language)

Listening (Receptive Language)

Multi-sensory methods

-We will use various tactile methods (letter tiles, letter magnets, finger tracing, tapping, on skin, in rice, etc.)

-We will write in non-standard ways (chalk board, dry erase, large pad writing, small crayon, etc.)

Reading tutoring is adapted to the individual. After your free 30 minute assessment, we will discuss tutoring needs and what programs would be most helpful to use. There may be workbooks or materials that need to be purchased by the student. We can discuss these needs and keep them minimal.

Here are some of the programs I use to create a tutoring plan:
