Reading Levels

Reading levels are determined in many ways, yet only represent a handful of skills a child is able to perform. Use these charts to compare various reading metrics you may have from school or from teachers. These reading levels are helpful when deciding what level of books may currently be a good fit for your child but do not represent a full picture of your child's reading ability.  For example, they may be reading chapter books on AR 6.3 but have gaps in decoding multisyllable words, which may be addressed by focusing on that skill in specific AR 4.0 books for awhile. It's important to address these gaps and improve other affected areas such as spelling, writing, comprehension, and ease of reading.

The goal is to have a solid reading foundation and minimize skill gaps so when a child comes across new material they will have the abilities needed to enjoy the reading and absorb the material!
